I am Takkiyah, the CEO and Founder of Khumur Births, and it is my pleasure to be invited along for your journey. I am a wife and mother to three beautiful daughters, ranging in age from young adult to toddler.
I have had a passion for all things baby since I was a young teenager. In fact, my original career aspiration was to become an OBGYN. I attended college and received my Bachelors in Biology (PREMED).After having my first child, I discovered that the support I desired to provide to pregnant women wasn’t the role of the OB. I realized during my birth that my obstetrician, although she was amazing, was only on the scene for the actual delivery. In fact, this was the scenario for all three of my deliveries. The fact of the matter is obstetricians are bombarded with several patients at one time which typically results in a numbers game. The realization turned my attention to the potential career of a Labor and Delivery Nurse. While pursuing my nursing degree, I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. I had done my undergraduate studies pregnant and as a new mom. Although it was more challenging, I was successful. Fortunately, I still acted as a Labor/Delivery Support Person throughout my pregnancies and schooling. However the second time around I chose to fully enjoy my pregnancy and pause my academic pursuits.
I have now acquired over twenty three years of experience both personally and professionally as a Labor/Delivery Coach. What I have learned throughout the years is that all births are different. All of my births were uniquely diverse. But I also found that with each one, the experience became more gratifying and liberating. What was different? I became more educated with each one. I knew my rights and options. I knew what I did and did not want. I knew what worked and what did not. I now want to help as many women as I can with giving them power through knowledge. In November of 2019, I took steps to acquire my certification in birth work. Subsequently a year and two months later I received my certification and training as a Labor & Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator through AMANI Birth.
I’ve always had a passion and calling for education and babies. My professional background is in education. I have over eleven years of educational experience. I have acted as a lead teacher for elementary level (core subjects), middle school (science), and high school (math/science). I currently homeschool my beautiful children. I also tutor virtually and in person in English, math and science. When not teaching or assisting new moms I enjoy cooking, baking, doing DIY projects, event planning and interior design. Today I educate mothers to empower them in giving their babies the best start within their means, which begins before you give birth. Today I assist women in channeling their inner strength while in labor and beyond. I thank you once again for considering me as a member of your birthing team and your intimate circle during your journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
